Surgery and Dentistry
Our hospital has modern surgical suites with constant monitoring equipment available to handle routine as well as many specialized surgical procedures. Laser surgery, although not applicable in every procedure, has many benefits for your pet: less pain, less bleeding, less swelling, greater precision, reduced risk of infection and healing is rapid with less post operative pain. Elective surgeries are performed Monday thru Friday, by appointment only. All pets scheduled for surgery must be admitted to our clinic by 8:30 a.m. Please withhold food after 9:00p.m. the night before surgery, unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Routine dental cleaning and polishing are important for maintaining the optimal health of your pet. Many pets have gingivitis and periodontal disease which can lead to systemic infections, premature tooth decay and loss, and damage to the kidney, liver and heart. Dental infections can be painful as well as harmful to your pet’s overall health. Dental procedures are performed under general anesthesia by a trained technician and monitored by a doctor. You may also choose to extend the benefits of your pets dental cleaning by applying Oravet, a barrier sealant for your pets teeth.

Digital Radiography
Digital Radiography provides instant, unlimited images, ready for hospital-wide distribution in
4 seconds. Digital radiography also allows us to send images over the internet for consultation
and diagnostic purposes.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a painless, non-invasive diagnostic tool. We can use ultrasound to image both the heart and abdominal organs

Pet Identification
Pet identification is the key to safely recovering your lost or stolen pet. Kitty Hawk Animal Hospital offers you two options:
 |
Home Again |
“Home Again” is the most complete pet retrieval system available today. A permanent microchip is inserted just below the skins surface on your pet. After your veterinarian has inserted the chip, you enroll your pet, with the ID information provided, in the HomeAgain pet recovery service. The use of a hand held scanner reveals a code that identifies you at the pets owner.
|
| |
Tattooing |
Tattooing the inside of your pet’s rear leg with either its AKC registration number, or your drivers license number is a positive step in recovering your pet. This is most easily accomplished while your pet is under anesthesia.

Obedience Training & Behavioral Consultations

Is your pet's behavior driving you crazy? Diana Wilkins can help!
Diana entered the world of dog training in 1997 with her first dog, a German Shepherd Dog named Dani. Wanting to ensure a well-behaved canine companion, Diana and Dani attended Obedience classes and then searched for “the next step.” At their instructor’s suggestion, they tried the sport of dog agility. It did not take long for Diana to become captivated by the high level of teamwork that this sport required with her dog. Dani took Diana to USDAA (United States Dog Agility Association) World Championships in 2002 to compete in the Steeplechase.
2002 was also the year that Diana debuted her Border Collie, Kona. Diana and Kona have consistently ranked in the USDAA Top Ten Standings and are seven-time Finalists at USDAA World Championships. Their list of accomplishments ranks them at the top of the sport.
For many years, Diana enjoyed a career in Human Resources while training obedience and agility during her spare time. Diana served as a trainer at Depaw Agility Training Center in Manor, Texas for three years before moving to Florida, where she continued to serve a private clientele. In 2009, Diana a Human Resources career and the corporate world, returning to San Antonio, Texas to open Kitty Hawk Canine Academy at Kitty Hawk Animal Hospital.
Diana has a Masters degree in Psychology from Texas Tech University and has studied animal behavior and trained extensively. She focuses on (1) pet dog training and socialization to further the dog-owner bond as well as (2) combining training in dog behavior and psychology to treat individual behavioral concerns.
