Dentistry

Did you know that 85% of all dogs over 1 year of age have some degree of periodontal disease, but only 3% get treated? Did you know that more than 70% of cats show signs of oral disease by the time they are only 3 years old? Most periodontal infections start with plaque which is composed of bacteria, salivary proteins and food debris. Plaque builds up not only on the teeth, but in the spaces between teeth and gums causing irritation, redness and swelling otherwise known as Gingivitis. At this stage, bacteria from the oral infection may enter your pet's bloodstream which affects vital organs such as the heart, lungs, kidney, liver and even the brain. At Kitty Hawk Animal Hospital we offer Professional Teeth Cleaning under general anesthesia with comprehensive Digital Oral Radiographs of your pet's teeth to aid the doctor in determining proper treatment and care specific to your pet. We also have trained technicians that can educate and demonstrate daily oral care and prevention at home.

digital
Our Digital Radiology system allows us to take multiple instant digital x-rays of your pet in less than 5 seconds to aid our doctors in making a positive diagnosis. It also allows us to make copies of the images saved on a disc to easily transport or even e-mail the images to specialists.

ultasound
Ultrasound Technology is a great diagnostic tool that gives the doctors a non-invasive look into your pet's body. This can help determine pregnancy, pancreatitis, heart problems, locate internal masses or tumors and much more.

petid
Having a permanent microchip placed in your pet is the best way to ensure you will get your best friend home safely should he or she get lost or stolen. "Home Again" is the most complete pet retrieval system available today. A permanent microchip is inserted just below the skin surface on your pet between the shoulder blades. After the chip has been inserted, your pet is enrolled with the ID information provided, in the HomeAgain pet recovery service. The use of a hand held scanner reveals a code that identifies you at the pets owner.
